The Rocks – SBC Week 3

Colors Dusk Turkey Clouds Sky Beautiful Sunset

A while ago, in a little town named Frenheart, there lived the Johnsons family. There was Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Johnson, Peter Johnson, and his big sister Maya Johnson. Every day for breakfast, just as the sun would rise, little Peter would go fetch water from the ocean to boil the oatmeal his family were to have for breakfast. Peter would always look forward to the refreshing water that he could dip his thirsty feet in each morning. One particular morning, Peter spotted a peculiar shell a couple feet in front of him. All of a sudden as he was going over to pick up the glimmering shell, Peter dropped into the water from a sudden dip in the surface of the ocean. One second he had been standing in shallow water while the next he was standing in meters deep icy cold water. Struggling to keep his head above the water, a strong tide started to pull Peter to group of sharp, glimmering rocks. What happens next?…

Quality Work

I learn best when I enjoy what I am learning in a comfortable environment. I consider myself a sensitive learner because if I am in an environment not to my liking I can have a hard time learning but if I am in an environment to my liking I can get things done fast with quality. If I am in an environment that I am comfortable in but i’m not enjoying what i’m learning I won’t get as much work as fast and in the same quality I do when i’m in a comfortable environment enjoying what i’m learning.Image result for kids learning Image result for kids learning

Technically It’s a New Beginning

Well, this is a new beginning of the school year technically ( You get it? Technically because i’m in tech class.) and my expectations for this class is that it will be enjoyable and I will do as well as I did in advanced reading if not better. I hope to accomplish this by trying my best and being immersed in the class. I know that tech class will be fun because last class we went over what we will go over during our time in this class and I know I will enjoy it. Some of the things we are going to go over include things like building an electrical RC car, and blogging like I am right now. To wrap it up, I am excited and open for what is going to come in this class!Image result for technology class Image result for technology class

Final Chemistry and Salts experiment

Research Question: Does the amount of hydrogen peroxide added to the experiment effect the amount of elephant toothpaste created in the end of the experiment?

IV: Amount of hydrogen peroxide liquid.

DV: The amount of elephant toothpaste.

Hypothesis:  As the IV increases, then the DV will increase as well

Discussion:  How did it go?  What worked with the experiment?  What would you improve next time?

The experiment was exciting at some parts but also frustrating in others. Some of the things that went well with the experiment was the teamwork and determination. Next time, I would make sure I put in an even amount of ingredients.
Conclusion: Based on my data, I can conclude that the more hydrogen peroxide you add to the elephant toothpaste mix, the more chance you have that it will explode.

Making Salt In Science

2965500868My experiment for science class this unit was about bonding metals and acids to make salts. We did this by placing our metals in a container with our salts and let that react for 1 minute to 1 day depending on the metal. Then we poured the liquid into another container like the one shown above and we heated up the liquid so it then turned into salt. This is not as easy as it seems though. For example, if you pour the liquid into the container to heat it and it still has some acid in it, you failed. If you heat up the glass to an extent where it cracks, you failed. All in all, I think this experiment was really fun.

Science 8 Plant Expirement

In my science class, we have just started our first few experiments. Our research question was, do plants grow better in 24 hour sunlight, normal sunlight, or complete darkness? The independent variable is the different setups and the dependent variable is the plants height. The controlled variables were the seeds, containers, and the cardboard pieces we  used to place the seeds on. The data we collected was definitely very surprising. The seed in 24 hour sunlight grew 0 cm, the seed in normal sunlight grew 1 cm, and the seed in complete darkness grew 5.5 cm. Another group who also measured their seeds had different results than mine. Their seed placed in complete sunlight grew 0 cm, their seed placed in normal sunlight grew 1.5 cm, and their seed in complete darkness grew 2 cm. So the overall average for 24 hour sunlight was 0 cm. The overall average for normal sunlight was 1.25 cm, and the overall average complete darkness 3.75 cm. My group discussed how we could make the seed grow longer and we came up with what we at least thought was a good idea. We said that instead of using cardboard we could use soil since that was a natural place for a seed to be. After that, we added some manganese and potassium salt into the plant since that could help the salt gain protein and produce chlorophyll. Surprisingly again, the biggest the seed grew 3.1 cm. So based on my data, I can conclude that the less sunlight a plant grows in the bigger it will become.

Scratch Programming Game

For the last 2 weeks my tech class has been learning how to program and make our own video games. Each of my piers has made a game on scratch that has been based off some videos that we watched to start us off with our games. I made a racing game that I would have probably never thought that I was able to do. Click here to play The Amazing Race (my game).

Moving To Dakar

I remember the experience of moving to my new home Dakar almost like it was yesterday. I flew in at 6 am but my excitement couldn’t stop me from exploring my new house. After half an hour my dad forced me to go to bed, sadly.

I woke up in the morning and turned the AC off because my room was getting very cold. Then I realised how many mosquito bites I had and made a note to put the mosquito net down next time.

After breakfast (Corn Flakes) my dad asked t me if I  wanted to go to a surfing class at Quicksilver that I could go to on Sunday. I agreed since I was eager to continue to improve my surfing skills and this was Dakar so their were many beaches.

Soon school started and I started to get some friends along with it. I was kind of depressed from my last year of school that I had in the US but I overcame that. The only thing that was bad to stat off the school year was MAP testing. The tests were so long and my brain felt fried on the inside. It was torture for me because I was longing to go outside and have a breath of fresh air.

One and a half months into school soccer tryouts started. I was very exited to show the coaches what I had to show them and I tried my hardest. Thankfully I made the A team. One of the reasons I really liked ISD’s soccer was because it was intense and that helps us win games and become a better athlete. Soon after I was accepted onto the travel team for WAISAL and was very proud.

Life couldn’t get any better.
